We are launching a new line of pet accessories that are especially designed for runners. We’ve had the Facebook page for quite a while, but we can’t figure out how to make the page grow. We’ve emailed our existing database, but it’s not very large. What should we be doing that we aren’t? —Mike F.
Thank you for the question, Mike! There are many tactics that are successful in growing Facebook pages, and it sounds like you’re off to a great start by integrating your mailing list with your Facebook page. We can discuss some advanced methods to grow the page next week when we meet, but for now, let’s talk about Facebook ads and general posting guidelines. Here are three basic first steps:
1) Identify the appropriate target market for your products. It sounds like you want to reach pet owners and runners, so we recommend creating ads that will target those groups of people. It will be important for you to identify the top running magazines, as well as the top dog magazines, because those magazines will most likely have a Facebook following. You’ll be targeting your ads to those groups. 2) Create an ad that will compel people to “like” your page. Whether you decide to give away a product via a contest, or are simply asking people to like the page, once the person has liked your page, they will be within your sphere of influence. Once you’ve got them, you want to keep them, and more importantly, you want them to buy. 3) Think strategically about what information would be most helpful to your target audience, and write status updates that will be enjoyable for them to read. Prepare to publish to your Facebook page daily! Remember that the majority of status updates are viewed in the Facebook newsfeed, so keep your posts fresh and concise.
We look forward to speaking with you next week, Mike. Please feel free to contact us directly with additional questions!
